How to find the area of a shape

"Area! The mathematics of finding how much surface area is in a shape! That sounds exciting! We're basically going to be learning how to do simple geography! You must be on the edge of your seat!"

say I have a square, the perimeter of that square is 10cm, 5cm, 5cm, 10cm. Say I wanted to find the area of the square using the perimeter. First you get the length and width of the square. The length is 10cm, and the width is 5cm.
So you go 10cm x 5cm = 50cm.
So 50cm would be the area of the square. (My apologies its actually a rectangle.)

NOW YOU KNOW

  1. Love the intro - can't imagine where you got that from! Although maybe geometry not geography? I like your explanation of how to find area as well. It is simple and easy to follow. Have you used the correct unit of measurement for your answer?
